In a couple of months three new bollywood films Pankh, Film City and Fantastic which have something in common with Om Shanti Om, Khoya Khoya Chand and Luck By Chance are going to be released. If you have still not guessed it right. These new films are based in the Hindi film industry.
Bollywood has always fascinated outsiders and filmmakers are hoping this curiosity about life behind the silver screen will get audiences to walk into the theatres for films which have the film industry as a backdrop. On the cards is Fantastic - director Sanjay Chel's cynical look at the world of movie making.
Director, Fantastic Sanjay Chel said, “Fantastic is about the ups and downs in a director’s life ….”
Also under production is UTV Motion Pictures' Film City directed by Deven Khote, with John Abraham in the lead. Phillum City is a comedy which explores the lives of a group of film buffs who live in a chawl on the outskirts of Film City. On the other hand Pankh directed by Sudipto Chattopadhyay also promises to give the audience a peek into the darker side of Bollywood.
Director, Pankh Sudipto Chattopadhyay said, "The whole underbelly of Bollywood which is often not revealed, Bollywood is often shown glamorous, this states all the things that are politically incorrect, it takes a harsh look at the underbelly of Hindi cinema.."
Though Om Shanti Om was a big success, flops like Khoya Khoya Chand and Luck By Chance have shown that not all films based within the industry can ensure a hit. But what is that keeps filmmakers return to the idea of exploring the film world time and again?
Sanjay Chel said, "Film industry fascinates filmmakers because they are very close to the truth so when an artist is trying to create something from his own life that becomes really interesting."
And a little introspection will always be a good thing for Bollywood.
